My Haircut (3/4/11)

I've been meaning to get my hair cut for almost a year.  I just kept procrastinating it.  At some point I decided I'd let it grow and donate it to locks of love.

On March 4th I took the initiative.  I marched forth, as it were.  I figured I'd cash in my gift certificates to The Spa Club.  When I called the receptionist said she had an opening that afternoon and donation haircuts were free.  Bonus!

I believe that stylists are like doctors.  If they are good then they are booked up way in advance.  But, this was the last day I could get my haircut before Joseph's birth.  I really wanted to donate my pregnancy hair.  For those who don't know, during pregnancy you don't lose hair.  Three to six months after you give birth you lose all of the hair you didn't lose during the pregnancy.  I wanted to give the best donation I could.  I went in.

The stylist showed me how long my hair would be after she cut off the braid.  It seemed like I'd have enough hair left.  It should be okay.  My only desire was that I be able to put my hair in a ponytail after this was done.

She cut off the donation braid.

Then she cut some more.  Then a little more.  And more.  And more.  I drove home in shock.  I went into my home office, sat at my desk and cried and cried and cried.  There were no ponytails for me.  It was far shorter than I ever wanted.

My happy thought was that I had given my hair to some poor child that needed a wig.

After a week or two, and finding this picture, I felt much better about it.

Now that I am used to it I think it's okay.  I still miss my ponytails.

  1. Playing catch up on old blog posts. Thankfully I have fast growing hair. Six weeks later I had a stumpy ponytail. Now it's been 4 months and my hair is exactly what I wanted.

  2. Great job donating your hair! I've always wanted to do that, but don't ever get my hair long enough before it starts to drive me crazy!

  5. Jessica, I love your hair short! Reading this post made me think of you and me in Virginia when I finally decided to cut ALL of my very long hair off. It was so dramatic for me (and kind of traumatic). I'm so glad hair grows! Funny, that I keep my hair pretty short now. Anyway, I think you look fabulous with short hair!
