I've been sick for a couple of days now. So when we woke up with snow on the ground I had a real dilemma. I wanted pictures of Rachel's first adventure in the first snow of the year. I kept trying to tell myself that Rachel and I could play in the snow on another day. But, any other day just wouldn't be THE FIRST day of snow. I couldn't restrain myself. We had to do it.
Rachel seemed excited about the snow. But once she began walking in it she made a beeline for the only green grass she could see.
The snow tripped her before reaching her destination.
I waded in and retrieved her. Wiped the remaining snow off of her little body and sent her out again.
She took a few wavering steps.
Then, as if pulled by an invisible magnet, made her way towards her grassy haven.
She made it!
Encouraged by her victory, Rachel began her trek back to me.
The score was tied; Rachel 1, Snow 1. Rachel headed for the finish line determined not to be tripped up again.
The snow had other plans.
Her pleading eyes were all I could see as she fell to the ground once more.
The snow won.
Poor girl.
You are SO great at blogging and documenting so many "first's". I LOVE your creativity in writing up your posts as well. They aren't just the same old documentation like all of mine are. You definitely inspire me to do try and use my imagination.
ReplyDeleteShe is so adorable! But may I suggest gloves. She would have had much more fun if she had gloves on. And I would take the hood off and just have a hat on. That way she can see better and not have the stuff in front of her mouth. This is from years of experience.
ReplyDeleteYou are right Camille, we were under prepared. I was lucky that I had a coat. I bought it on sale at Costco recently. Her boots and hat were pushing too small. No gloves smaller than my adult hands. And my little sprite insisted on the "hat." Every time I'd put the hood down her face would get all squidgy, and she'd say in the saddest voice, "hat, hat, hat." Nothing to do but let her wear her hood.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog posts!
ReplyDeleteSo cute!
ReplyDeleteWow, snow seems like such a foreign thing. How sad!
I love this snow story! You are great at capturing the firsts of everything. I didn't even let Eliza outside in the snow yesterday. I'll let it snow again and claim it as the "first" snow later. :)
ReplyDeleteA few more snowstorms and my guess is she won't want to come back inside. Such a fun experience for her and mom.
ReplyDeleteI'm crying. So sad. No... what a darling iteration of First Snow. Jessica, it's a gift. You make us feel we were right there with you, watching Rachel and the snow battle it out.
ReplyDeleteThanks, honey.
Love and hugs,
Mom
