SO Tired

Rachel tried to protest a nap by playing with her night light.  Sleep won.

Peace. Be Still.

Some of the best moments in life are spent when we are still.

Snack Time?

Is it snack time or nap time?  Maybe both.

Waking Up

I wish I woke up this happy.

Note:  Rachel doesn't ALWAYS wake up this well.  If her nap is too short or at the wrong time she will wake up screaming.  Crying will then last for up to 45 minutes.

Naptime Adventure

The Setup:

Rachel has a mobile attached to her crib.  Every time we lay her down to sleep we push the button that sends the little teddy bears on their never ending merry-go-round.  We used to push the vibration button as well.  That feature died somewhere along the way.  Recently she discovered that if she pushes the buttons it makes the mobile do different things.

We have the most wonderful baby monitor in the world.  I can sit and watch everything Rachel does from the comfort of the sofa, my desk, my bed or even the yard.  Doug found it for a great deal, new, from a private seller.

The Story:

Today I watched Rachel as she went down for her first nap.  She tossed a few times.  Fidgeted.  I thought she'd go right to sleep.  Then she got up to play with the mobile.

I listened as she pushed the "nature sounds" button.  First I heard frogs, then a babbling brook, then the ocean, then silence.  It was a pregnant silence as her little fingers hovered over the buttons.  Then she pushed the "lullaby" button.  I cringed at the off-key rendition of "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star."  She pushed the button again and the song changed to "All the Pretty Little Ponies."  Rachel sat down and listened like she does when I sing to her.  But it only lasted for a few seconds before she was up again.  She turned off the wretched songstress and began pushing buttons wildly.

All of a sudden the cacophony stopped and I heard the crisp calliope sound of a music box playing Mozart.  A hearty laugh escaped me as Rachel began to dance.  She rocked back and forth, swinging her hips, and bouncing up and down.  Then as quickly as it had begun it was over.  She stopped partying in her crib and turned off the music.  She pushed another button and sent her little bears spinning, laid down, and went to sleep.

April 12th

Rachel woke up at 5:30am.  I turned on "Baby Einstein" to keep her quiet until 6:30.  I muted it, but you can still see flashes of light when you are trying to sleep.

We had a leisurely breakfast of oatmeal and pears.

From that point on Rachel was on the move.

Meanwhile, Zoe basked in her favorite sunspot.

Rachel didn't take a morning nap.  So, she fell asleep before we were finished with lunch.

I blogged, facebooked and organized pictures while Rachel slept.

After her nap she watched some "Sesame Street."

Then I corralled her in her playpen so that I could put pictures in frames and hang artwork.

Doug and Kaleb finished up the guest room (Kaleb's room) closet.  Doug painted the ceiling and trim.  I'll be able to decorate once the walls are painted, the outlets finished, and the rug down.  Then Kaleb can move in.  I think he'll be glad to have a space of his own.

After her bath Rachel and I read books together.  At bedtime she went right to sleep without even stirring.
Doug and I had a few minutes to ourselves.  We watched "Big Bang Theory" and went to bed.

12 on December 12

There are more than 12 pictures.  But, the idea is still the same.

Doug begins making candy.

Doug takes care of Rachel so that I can sleep in.

Rachel wakes from her nap.

She gets her diaper changed.  Then, takes time to munch on her toes.
Zoe digs on her bed hoping to find a bone.
Doug takes the candy sprite to Orson Gigi to buy chocolate.  She diligently guards it at home.

I attempt to make up some new cookie recipes: Almond Toffee Chocolate Chip Cookies and Candy Cane Chocolate Cookies.

Rachel drinks her bottle, eats sweet peas, applesauce with blueberries and rice cereal.

And she plays with her toys.

Zoe begs for treats.

I blog, Facebook, organize photos and play on the computer.
Rachel gets a bath.
Then the computer sprite works on her typing skills.
I shop for baby food and other Saturday night necessities.
  Doug hangs up the laundry.

We sit and watch "Dirty Jobs" after Rachel goes to bed.
