Lilacs

Lilac pictures are now officially an annual event.  See last year's post.

Joseph was peaceful laying under the lilacs on a pillow.

Peaceful, that is, until I told Rachel to go sit by him.

She took my instructions very literally.

We tried this pose, but couldn't really see Joseph's face.

We tried a couple of other poses.  But all we managed to do was make the kids cry.

We opted for individual photos in the end.

Rachel liked smelling the lilacs.

She wanted to share the experience with Joseph.

She pried his little fist open.

And tried to get him to hold some flowers.

She was quickly frustrated and abandoned the project.  But what she didn't notice was how happy it made Joseph.

He just kept smiling and smiling at her.

I think that if we could have understand his cooing we'd hear him say, "I love you Rachel."

Then to us he'd say, "I have the best big sister."

Lilacs

Last year we took pictures of Rachel with our beautiful Lilacs.

It seemed only fitting to do it again this year.  (Incidentally, this was 2 days before the snowstorm.)

Rachel loves, loves, loves to be outside.  She also likes to be barefoot and explore the way things feel on her feet.

She decided that we all should smell the lilacs.  Rachel smelled them...

 I smelled them...

and Zoe smelled them.

Then she decided to taste them.

I can almost see the cognitive wheels turning in her head.  "What should I try now?"

"I wonder what happens when you scrape the flowers on the ground."

I love watching Rachel explore and grow.  What a wonderful year it has been.
