Blog Books

You may, or may not, have been wondering why I fell off the blogging radar in January.  This is why. 

A few months back I bought some Groupons for Blurb.com.  I had to use them before they expired.  So, I ignored everything else for weeks and made these blog books.  There are things I would do differently next time.  There is a formatting that I would change.  And, I have to admit that I think MyPublisher's paper and print quality are better than Blurb's.  But... Blurb imported my blog into their software automatically which was a lifesaver!  I made one book that covers the final months of 2009.  Then I split 2010 into 3 books so that I could get the highest quality paper they offered.  I still have to put the final touches on book 2010 volume 3.  But I am thrilled that I have the history of my family in printed form.

Almost everything comes from the blog.  I just added some extra pictures and a few entries that never got published.  Here is just a sampling from the books.

My first 2 blog entries!  Power outage of October 2009 and Halloween 2009.

I put the table of contents for all 3 volumes of 2010 at the beginning of each volume for easy referencing.

I love flipping through the pages and letting the memories wash over me.

This solidifies my resolve to give up scrapbooking.  I can reprint these books at any time.  I hope to continue to add volume after volume to our family history throughout the years.

Separate blogs

I have two separate blogs.  I have two agendas, two completely different reasons for blogging.  And, perhaps, two different sets of readers.  The blog that you are reading now is dedicated to our family.  This is where you are going to see pictures of us as we grow.  This is where fun stories of our antics will be found.  This is the blog to read if you want to watch Rachel (and future children) grow up.  The Goodwin blog is about people and events.  This is the blog that I will turn into a book at the end of every year.

My second blog, My Marbles and Whatnot, is where you will find everything that doesn't belong here on the Goodwin family blog.  My Marbles and Whatnot is where you will read about my studies, my insecurities, my pondering, and whatever else goes on in my brain.  This is the blog for ideas, questions, etc.  Check it out if you are interested.

Blogging

Doug set up this blog in 2006. He hoped that we would begin blogging about our life. He made some entries. Then, when we found out we were pregnant with our first child he became determined to document our journey. Unfortunately, as difficult visits to the doctor told us that Elizabeth was having problems, his blogging slowed and stopped.

Now, 3 years later, I am ready to pick up the torch that he started. I am not going to try to fill in all of the gaps. But, I will piece together a picture of our lives and some of the past moments that define us as a family. Mainly, I want to start fresh with the musings and adventures of today and all the tomorrows. Wish me luck!
